Babels on the Lake
For our 4th wedding anniversary, we stayed 2 nights in a condo on Lake Martin near Auburn, AL. We embraced the lake life and enjoyed fishing outside our back door. That experience and the pandemic fueled the fire within us to make our home a place of relaxation and tranquility. Things moved very fast after that. We put our house in Phenix City on the market and sold it in 9 days. We wanted to be on the water. On August 24, 2020, we closed on our house and moved into our friend’s RV, where we lived for 1.5 months with all 7 animals before purchasing our RV from family in Minnesota. During this time, we investigated building and were unsuccessful. The housing market was crazy at the time, and the home and property were under contract before we could make our move. Luckily, we found a home at the back of a subdivision in Georgia that checked 99% of our boxes, and on October 26, Babels on the Lake was established. We thoroughly enjoy the tranquility of the lake and enjoy meals on the patio.
Before entirely moving in, we had to remove some trees and pour concrete to extend our driveway to fit MandDy (our RV). Since moving in, we have installed a fence for the dog yard, poured concrete for a patio, installed 10 hardwired security cameras, updated the ceiling fans and other interior light fixtures, and laid sod in the dog yard. We hope to renovate the master bathroom, remove the carpet, and build a deck and dock in the next few years.
